Tempe PD looking suspect who fired gun in liquor store robbery

The Tempe Police Department is asking for the public’s help in identifying a suspect who robbed Sam’s Liquor, a convenience store at 1025 W. Broadway Road slightly more than two weeks ago, firing a gunshot near the clerk’s head.

The suspect entered the store about 7:40 p.m. on April 11 and approached the front counter with a black handgun. The man then began to demand money from the store clerk. After obtaining a sum of money from the clerk, the suspect began to walk towards the exit and fired a gunshot toward the clerk’s head on his way out, according to Tempe police.

The suspect is described as a white male in his 50s, 5 feet 9 inches tall, 175 pounds with a large gray mustache. The suspect was wearing a dark beanie style cap, a black and white long-sleeved plaid shirt, blue jeans and white sneakers. The suspect was also carrying a black handgun.

Authorities are asking anyone with any information on his identity or current whereabouts to contact the Tempe Police Department at (480) 350-8311 or Silent Witness at (480) 948-6377.

As I was going home it started raining and there was lots of lightning in the distance.

Severe weather moves through Valley, toppling power lines

Phoenix area residents are cleaning up after a severe thunderstorm toppled power lines, felled trees and ripped mobile homes off their foundations.

The storm suddenly emerged Wednesday evening from two colliding fronts: one in the south heading north and one in the east heading northeast, said Doug Green of the National Weather Service in Phoenix.

The powerful storm spawned destructive winds, billowing dust and heavy rain and hail in many areas. Many areas saw no measurable rainfall. Other areas, including parts of Mesa, Avondale, Gilbert, Scottsdale and Phoenix had totals ranging from .2 inches to nearly an inch.

As of Thursday morning, nearly 1,700 Arizona Public Service customers were without power in the aftermath of the storm. Most of the customers without power are in the Ajo and Buckeye areas with nearly 100 customers without power in central Phoenix and Gilbert.

Power has been restored to almost of all of the 7,000 Salt River Project customers who lost power as a result of the storm.

Several mobile homes near Germann and Ironwood roads in the San Tan Valley were knocked off their foundations, said Collin Williams, a spokesman for Rural/Metro Fire Department.

Responders for Rural/Metro reported seeing a wall of dust coming from one direction and a wall of rain from the opposite. The storms collided over the trailer park.

In front of the thunderstorms were "gustnadoes," spinning winds resembling a large dust devil, according to the National Weather Service.

The "gustnadoes" ripped roofing and siding off of homes and spread debris across yards and streets, Williams said.

The National Weather Service has not reported any official tornadoes, but they have not ruled out the possibility. Forecasters are looking into the first hand reports, photos and videos to determine whether any of the 'gustnadoes' were actually tornadoes.

Burning debris at American Recycling Industries in west Phoenix were fanned by the wind, pushing flames toward another nearby building that stored cardboard, said Jorge Enriquez, a Phoenix Fire Department spokesman.

Firefighters also responded to blazes at two homes near the base of Camelback Mountain, one near 44th Street and Camelback Road and the other near 56th Street and Camelback Road. Enriquez could not confirm whether those fires were caused by the storm.

No injuries were reported as a result of the storm.

Phoenix is expected to see clear skies and slight breezes through the rest of week, and temperatures are expected to reach triple digits by the weekend.

I went some where with somebody and did some computer work. at a college or a business. I don't know exactly where. Of course why I needed to go to the Bay area is beyond me because I could have done the computer work in Phoenix.

When I was leaving we left on bicycles and I was following another guy.

Next thing I know is that I ended up in a laundromat where I was going to ask for a map so I could find my way back to where ever I was going back to. But I woke up then and the dream ended. That is also when I got up at about 4 am.

In the past I have used welding glasses to view the eclipse. I beleive you need at least a number 12 welding filter and probably a number 15 welding filter to safely view the sun.

Don't use one of those cheep #5 filters that they have for gas welders.

Also you can add up the numbers to get a safe level.

For example three #5 lenses will give you the equivalent of one #15 lense. Or a #5 and a #10 lenses will also give you the equivalent of a #15 lense.

Remember every phone number you dial and every key you touch on both your cell phone and land line phone the cops can find out about it. The police usually can get that info without court orders. Often crooked telephone companies will give crooked cops your data when a court order is required, but has not been issued. And many locations don't require a court order for the police to get this info.

Also per the US Telecommunication Act which was passed around 1996 the manufacturers of telephone switches are required by law to make it easy for the cops to tap the voice on your phone line. All it takes to tap you phone is a few keystroke on a computer terminal and the police will be monitoring the audio of all your calls.

Most newer cell phones have GPS chips in them that tell the police your location. And even if your phone doesn't have a GPS chip in it the cops can get your location by triangulating it from the cell phone towers that receive your phones signal.

Last but not least with cell phones everything you do is broadcast on the airwaves and ANYBODY including the police can listen to your calls if they are close to the cell phone tower that is processing your call.

I certainly don't think you should be murdering and robbing people like in this article. But sadly most of the people in the USA are arrested not for real crimes, but for victimless drug war crimes which if you ask me should be legalized.

I found some welding glass lenses that you can use to view the sun at an Ace Hardware store for $1.69 each.

I think you need about a number 12 lense to view the sun safely.

If you don't have a #12 lense you can use two or more lenses that add up to 12 or higher.

For example a number 8 lense combined with a number 4 lense will give the same eye protection as a number 12 lense.

I bought a #10 and a #5 lense, and when you add the numbers up it give a #15 lense.

The lenses cost $1.69 each and the total was around $3.50 after the government shook me down for sales taxes.

A number 5 lense doesn't offer that much protection. It's used mostly for gas welding which doesn't generate that much light.

When I used to arc weld or stick weld we used a #10 lenses. It's a lot brighter then gas welding. But still you need a lot more protection when you look at the sun.

I think the last time an eclipse came I was working at Motorola and we looked at the solar eclipse in the daytime while working.

I did the same thing then. But back then I had a couple of homes to live in and I was making big bucks.

Today, I am just a homeless bum that lives on the street and there isn't any jobs out there.

The solar eclipse was pretty cool

Yesterday on my way home I checked out the solar eclipse. It was pretty cool.

I looked at it thru a #10 and a #5 welding glass lense filters. With welding filters you add the numbers so a #10 and a #5 filter give you a protection of a #15 filter.

I think you should have at least a #12 filter to look at the sun.

The sun was a dark green ball of light with a black spot in the middle where the moon was blocking the light.

The moon started out blacking out the bottom of the sun and slowly moved upward blocking more and more of the sun out.

It wasn't a total eclipse where the sun was totally blacked out. I think the newspapers said 85 percent of the light would be blocked.

Will it was still very bright and sunny outside during the middle of the eclipse it was noticeably darker out side.

I was kind of ticked off because I missed the the part of the eclipse where the moon was in the middle of the sun and you had the "ring of fire".

But that wasn't a big deal it was still pretty cool.

This is a photo of the sun I took thru my welding lenses. It was not taken during the eclipse.

One lense is a #10 lense, the other lense is a #5 lense. When you combine them just add the numbers together.

In this case when you look thru a #5 lense and a #10 names it protects your eyes like a #15 lense would.

I think you need a minimum of a #12 lense to safely look at the sun.

I combined the #10 and #5 lenses and looked thru both of them when I looked at the sun.

Combining a #5 and a #10 lense gives me the equivalent protection of a #15 lense which is dark enought to safely look at the sun.

If you look at the lenses they have the darkness of the lense printed on the lense. In this case I circled those numbers in red.

The top lense is a #10 lense and the bottom lense is a #5 lense.

Overcharged at Mr. Burrito on Wed, Thur & Friday???

I don't have any problems with Filibertos, they always treat me good.

But the new lady usually doesn't open up until after 6 a.m., which is far too late for me, so I started going to Mr. Burrito Mexican Grill.

I can eat, read my newspaper and be out of their before 6 a.m.

They also treat me good, but I am kind of ticked because the owner seems to be overcharging me by 2 cents.

When the woman rings up my bill the price is $2.18 which includes tax. That is $1.99 + 19¢'s in tax.

When the owner charges me on Wed & Thur the price is $2.20 which includes tax. That is $1.99 + 21¢'s in tax.

While two cents isn't a big deal I don't like to be cheated out of money.

So because of that I will probably start going to Filibertos on Wednesdays and Thursdays at the drive up window.

Sure I won't be able to eat inside, but at least I won't be ripped off on Wednesdays, Thursdays and Fridays.

I guess the hours have changed. Now the owners works on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursdays in the morning instead of Wednesday, Thursdays, and Fridays in the morning.

10,000 photos and counting

About a week or two later my 8 gig memory card also filled up with photos. That is the second 8 gig memory card I have purchased for this camera.

I deleted a few of the garbage fotos from the card so I can continue to shoot photos of stuff I see.

Today I bought a third 8 gig memory chip for the camera and when I use of all the space on the last 8 gig card I will put the new chip in.

My last camera, which was the first digital camera I bought only had a 1 gig memory chip in it. I think it has a maximum resolution of about 5 meg per photo. I think I only purchased one extra 1 gig chip for it.

My current camera shoots 12.1 megabyte photos, and I always shoot at the highest possible resolution. But with a 8 gig card that is no biggie, I can shoot something like 666 uncompressed photos for each card. I think it will hold something like 5,000 photos when you consider that each image is compressed.

With the old camera I shot rarely used the maximum resolution, because even with a 1 gig chip it filled up pretty fast. I would usually shoot photos with a 1280 x 960 resolution which is 1.2 meg for each photo uncompressed.

Then I would crop the photos and put them on the web.

Last I find it odd that "migraines" are on this list. Under Arizona's current Prop 203 "migraines headaches" which cause severe pain are a legal use for medical marijuana, because any ailment that causes sever pain is a valid use for medical marijuana.

Last year 600 people were busted for DUI on Memorial Day, that's a minimum of $600,000 in revenue since DUI fines start at about $1,000 for the lowest form of DUI. I think the minimum fine has risen to around $1,500.

Usually city governments are the ones that raise the revenue with DUI arrests. I am not quite sure what government entities will get the loot from shaking down these travelers in the Grand Canyon since that is probably Federal land.

I used to think DUI was a really bad crime, but since the legal level of intoxication is .08, that is only two beers for me, and I am certainly not drunk after two beers. For a petite woman like Paris Hilton who was popped for DUI, that is a measly ONE beer. And I certainly don't think a person should be busted for DUI after drinking one lousy beer.

When DUI was invented the level was .15. Now at .15 I certainly am drunk. It takes about 5 beers for me to get to that level.

But over the years, mostly due to laws passed at the Federal level the legal standard of DUI dropped to .10 and then .08. These laws force the states to set the DUI level to .08 in order to get money from the Feds for highway projects.

Homeless people go thru a lot of shoes

But since I have been homeless again I wear shoes every night when I got out into the desert to sleep.

Sure I got tough feet that can walk on asphalt in the hot summer sun, but my feet can't walk on cactus thorns, mesquite thorns or scorpions. Which is why I where shoes when I go sleep in the desert.

I have only been homeless for 2 months and my tennis shoes are showing signs of major wear.
