100°F is a heat wave??? Since when????

Wow! those folks in Chicago are a bunch of weenies!!! Imagine calling wimpy 100°F weather a heat wave!!!

But of course in Chicago with all that humidity a 98°F day with 98% humidity is far worse then a 120°F day in Phoenix with our low humidity.

Welcome to summer: Skilling predicts 97 for Sunday

Staff report

10:07 a.m. CDT, May 25, 2012

Lots of heat and humidity are on the menu for the Memorial Day weekend, with an especially hot Sunday looming.

According to the forecast from WGN-TV meteorologist Tom Skilling, temperatures should climb into the 90s on Sunday and Monday.

Skilling is predicting a high of 97 Sunday – say hello to summer. If it does get that high, it'll break a record of 94 for that date that has been around for 101 years and become the hottest temperature reached so early in the season, Skilling said. It'll also be nearly 30 degrees above normal.

Skilling also said that there's a shot at 100-degree temperatures Sunday. Grilling weather.

If Monday also holds true to form, reaching Skilling's predicted high of 91, it'll be the hottest Memorial Day in six years and only the fifth one in the last 50 years that have reached 90.

After reaching 90 for the third time this year Thursday, winds out of the northwest will help bring today's temperatures down to the mid-80s. Some scattered thunderstorms are scheduled to arrive overnight and into Saturday, when the temperatures start to rise into the upper 80s.

After that, there shouldn't be any more rain until late in the day or at night Monday.
