Basically the Sky Train is an extension of the Phoenix
light rail pork program that allows people to ride to sporting
events with the tax payers paying most of the costs.
The Phoenix Suns and the Arizona Diamondbacks are the main beneficiaries of the Sky Train and Valley Metro light rail government corporate welfare programs. Now travelers will be able to fly to Phoenix, take the Sky Train for free from the Sky Harbor Airport to the Light Rail and then take the light rail to the Suns or Diamondbacks games. PHX Sky Train at Sky Harbor Airport begins test runs by Emily Gersema - May. 14, 2012 12:06 PM The Republic | azcentral.com The automated train at Phoenix Sky Harbor International Airport took its inaugural test run Monday morning as Mayor Greg Stanton and other Phoenix officials celebrated the project's milestone. The unmanned PHX Sky Train will be put through several test runs as officials with Montreal-based train manufacturer, Bombardier Inc., ensure the train is ready for passengers early next year. Stanton said the unmanned PHX Sky Train is expected to carry at least 6 million people between 44th and Washington streets, the East Economy Lot and Terminal 4 next year in its first year of operation. The project has created more than 6,000 jobs. "This thing has been built during the worst economy since the Great Depression," Stanton said. The project is a $1.5 billion investment [Investment? What a crock!!! They are going to let people ride it for FREE!!!!! It's a government welfare program for air travelers going to Phoenix Suns and Arizona Diamondbacks games!!!], largely funded by a $4.50 passenger-facility fee that is charged to every airline passenger traveling through Sky Harbor. Last year, more than 41 million passengers flew through the Phoenix airport. [So these 41 million passengers that fly to or thru Sky Harbor airport will be paying $4.50 each, to fund the free rides of the 6 million people that use the Sky Train for free. Using the numbers hear it will cost $30.75 to pay for the free trip given to each passenger that rides on the Sky Train] Work on Sky Train is expected to continue through next year on another section that will extend the train's guideway from Terminal 4 to Terminal 3, with a moving walkway that will link travelers from Terminal 3 to Terminal 2. That phase is slated to be completed by 2015. |
