April 1 - Joel Olson Dead!

Joel Olsen was teaching at a university in Spain as an exchange professor from Northern Arizona University. Joel Olson went to a conference in London, England where he was found dead in his hotel room.

As of yet we don't know the cause of death or any of the other details about the death. Some people that went to a memoral for Joel Olson in Flagstaff say he was found in his hotel room in his bed and it looked like he was peacefully sleeping.

Surfers along the Southern California coast caught some big waves Sunday thanks to a large west swell, and weather officials said a high surf advisory will continue until noon Monday.

“The highest we got here was Ventura Harbor had 14 feet and Channel Islands Harbor had 10 feet,” said Stuart Seto of the National Weather Service in Oxnard, adding that the measurements were taken at 1 p.m. Sunday. “Hermosa had 8 feet.”

The bulk of the wave energy came from a storm system from Alaska that slammed into Northern California on Saturday, sending a powerful swell moving down the coast over the weekend that peaked along the southern coast Sunday, forecasters said.

The surf is expected to lose strength Monday.

SAN FRANCISCO - -- Yahoo is laying off 2,000 employees as new CEO Scott Thompson sweeps out jobs that don't fit into his plans for turning around the beleaguered Internet company.

The cuts announced Wednesday represent 14 percent of the 14,100 workers employed by Yahoo, which is based in Sunnyvale, California.

The housecleaning marks Yahoo's sixth mass layoff in the past four years under three different CEOs. This one will inflict the deepest cuts yet, eclipsing a cost-cutting spree that laid off 1,500 workers in late 2008 as Yahoo tried to cope with the Great Recession.

Thompson is making his move three months after Yahoo lured him away from his previous job running eBay Inc.'s online payment service, PayPal.

The Jerk left me a note on my door ordering me to dress up for Kathy's party. I suspect the Jerk is just a control freak that enjoys bossing people around.

Before we left the Jerk ordered me to put on some shoes. I told him I couldn't because I put them in my locker.

And of course before we left the Jerk blamed the fact that his home ran out of hot water on me. But hey what did you expect out of the Jerk, he always is a grouchy mean person.

When we got to Kathy's party many of the people were dressed like me, t-shirts, shorts and sandals. Nothing special.

And of course the Jerk yelled at me for not obeying his orders and not dressing up. But hey, what do you expect, the Jerk is always in a foul mood. And of course the Jerk thinks he is the Master of the Universe.

One interesting thing about the party was a lot of the people there were from Venice Beach. They seemed to like my statement that Venice is a mental institution run by the inmates. Personally I think Venice is a really cool place and I love it.

While we are talking about the jerk maybe it is time to ask

Day one of being homeless again.

I wore three pairs of thermal underwear pants and my legs were OK.

I was pretty nervous and I didn't sleep much, but that was probably because I have not slept on the streets in about two years and I was a little scared.

Day two of being homeless again.

I also wore a ski cap, because last night my head was cold.

I had a real good nights sleep and didn't wake up at all. But man it seemed to be a lot colder this morning when I got up compared to yesterday.

I had a splitting headache when I got up this morning. I suspect it is a result of caffeine withdrawal. I used to start drinking my caffeine at about 4 am, but now I don't get any till 7:30 or 8.

Day 3 of being homeless again.

I saw a large brown snake in the desert

My brain wasn't thinking an I walked within two feet of the snake.

After I passed the snake it uncoiled itself and slithered off into the desert. It reminded me of a cop that once tried to get friendly with us during a COPWATCH patrol and he slithered off after Heather told him what he was.

The snake was maybe 2 and a half feet to 3 feet long.

I don't know if the snake was a rattlesnake. It didn't rattle at me. But it was brown and looked like a rattlesnake. Of course there are lots of brown snakes that look like rattlesnakes, but which are not rattlesnakes.

Again I had problems getting to sleep, but after I went to sleep I slept very well until I woke up at about 3:30 a.m.

I think it is just getting used to where I am sleeping at. Hopefully in a couple of days I will be back to normal and used to sleeping in the desert again.

Again I had a headache when I got up this morning. I suspect it is a result of caffeine withdrawal. This mornings headache wasn't as bad as yesterdays headache.

I found a wallet when I was walking on my way to eat breakfast. It was in the street near McDonalds. It didn't have any money in it, but it did have a drivers license, a bank card and a car insurance affidavit.

I am guessing somebody stole it, took the money out and then threw it into the street.

I turned it into the clerk at McDonalds.

Look don't make fun of me, I don't eat at McDonalds!!!! I just walk by one on the way to get breakfast. Remember friends, don't let friends eat American food.

Day 4 of being homeless again.

When I got up I saw what looked like a cop truck driving down a dirt road near where I sleep, flashing it's blue and red cop car lights. The cop car was also flashing yellow lights. Man I am living out in the middle of the desert, why on earth is there a cop cruising around in my neighborhood???

McDonalds claimed they were out of newspapers? Were they lying and that is just a lame excuse to say they don't sell newspapers to homeless people?

The Circle K next to McDonalds had today's newspapers and I suspect that is why McDonalds is lying about being out of newspapers.

But don't worry I am not one of those socialist liberals that thinks I have a God given right to by a newspaper a McDonalds. I certainly and not going to demand that McDonalds sell me a newspapers. Nor am I going to ask the govenrment go pass any laws requiring that McDonalds sell newspapers to homeless folks like me.

F*ck em! I will buy the newspaper at Circle K, even if it costs 9 cents more because of the taxes. The reason I buy the newspaper at McDonalds is they don't charge sales tax and it cost a $1 instead of the $1.09 I pay at Circle K.

As I was walking back three fourths of the way back my mouth became almost as dry again. So I figured it was normal and gave up trying to keep my mouth wet. Again I got a real good nights sleep. And again no morning headache because of my caffeine withdrawal symptoms.

Lots of stinking jackrabbits. I have forgot to say this before but every day as I walk from the city into the desert I have been seeing lots of jackrabbits.

I have seen jackrabbits before, but now there seems to be a whole lot more of them then I usually see.

High temperatures this weekend in the Phoenix area could top record highs, according to the National Weather Service.

The forecast temperatures for the weekend have become progressively hotter as the weekend gets closer. Highs are now expected to reach 101 on Saturday, 103 on Sunday and 101 on Monday, according to the National Weather Service.

Sunday's high is expected to beat the record of 99 set in 1949, said Dan Leins, a meteorologist for the National Weather Service. Monday's high is expected to be close to that day's record of 102, also set in 1949, Leins said.

Temperatures are normally in the mid-80s at this time of year, Leins said.

The high Thursday is expected about 92 and the low near 66. Friday, temperatures are forecast to reach 97 and drop to 70, according to the National Weather Service.

This unusually warm weather is caused by a high-pressure system building over the state, Leins said.

The Phoenix area could see rain and cooler weather this weekend, according to the National Weather Service.

Temperatures Friday are expected to reach 73 and drop to 49 at night. There is a 10 percent chance of rain during the day and a chance of rain at night, according to the National Weather Service.

Saturday and Sunday there is a slight chance of showers throughout the day. Highs Saturday are expected near 66 and lows near 47. Sunday could see highs near 73 and lows near 51, according to the National Weather Service.

Tuesday is expected to be the hottest day of the week with a high of 91 and a low of 60. Highs are forecast to reach near 79 on Wednesday and 73 on Thursday, according to the National Weather Service.

Supreme Court - It's about politics not the Constitution

Almost all the Supreme Court decisions I read about are decided by 5-4 votes, which certainly seems like the judges are casting their votes on political lines.

If the judges were voting on the Constitutional merits of the cases I suspect most cases would be decided with 9-0, 8-1, 7-2 votes with one or two judges disagreeing with the majority.

Last remember that the Supreme Court should not be deciding a case on if the law is a fantastic law, or if the majority of the people love the law, but on if the law is constitutional per the U.S. Constitution.

But I could find nothing to say that speeding by itself would get you arrested on felony charges!

Well that is until you check out this 1913 IRS tax form at this IRS web site:

Back then the US income tax maxed out at a whopping 6 percent for folks who made over $500,000. Of course $500,000 in 1913 was probably like $10,000,000 in 2012 dollars.

The lowest IRS tax rate was 1 percent which was for the few folks that paid income taxes.

Of course back in those days only rich folks paid income taxes.

On that form you didn't have to pay an income tax unless you made over $3,000 in 1913, which adjusted for inflation would be about $50,000 to $60,000 in current dollars.

And of course in 1913 America was an agrarian society and most people worked on the farm and didn't make enough money to pay the income tax, because they lived and worked on farms and could live off the land or live off of the farm without making money.

And that is why the 16th Amendment was probably passed. It was billed as a soak the rich tax, where rich people would be made to pay for the Federal government.

They actually debated in Congress of capping the maximum income tax rate at 10 percent, because they thought that if the government took 10 percent of your income or more it would be outrageous.

Sadly that didn't happen and now even if you make minimum wage Uncle Sam will shake you down for 10 percent of your income.

And of course in those days greedy Uncle Sam didn't have his hands in your wallet where he stole some of your money out of every pay check with withholding. In those days you paid you whole tax bill at the end of the year by mailing it to Uncle Sam.

The best way to prevent the police from accusing you of being a liar is for you to exercise your 5th Amendment Constitutional rights and refuse to answer any and all police questions.

Sadly most police officers are corrupt and will tell you that you don't have any stinking 5th Amendment rights and if you don't answer their questions they will use their police powers to illegally punish and hurt you.

But any defense lawyer will tell you that you should NEVER, NEVER answer any police questions, even if you are innocent of the crime. The police routinely twist and bend innocent sounding statements suspects make and turn them into statements that say the suspect has admitted the crime the police suspect him or her of.

Which is why you should never answer police questions.

Currently almost 300 people have been released from death row after DNA tests proved they did not commit the murder they were accused of. Many of these people were framed by the police who coerced them into giving false confessions.

Most people think they would never confess to a murder they did not commit.

But the police use slick sophisticated questioning techniques that can cause even the meanest baddest person on the planet to confess to a crime they didn't commit. And that is why you should always take the 5th and refuse any and all questioning.

The question techniques the police use most frequent to get these false confession is called

The 9 Step Reid Method

Their logic was they would only beat "guilty" people and of course with that logic they would never get a false confession.

The 9 Step Reid Method is pretty much the same technique, but instead of physically beating a person with a rubber hose they give them a "mental" beating with a rubber hose.

Phoenix records first 100-degree day of 2012

In Arizona's centennial year, its state capitol recorded its first 100 degree day Saturday.

And that's a week-and-a-half earlier than normal for Phoenix.

The mercury reached 100 degrees at 1:13 p.m. Saturday, with the high likely to be 103 degrees. May 2 is the average first day for the 100 mark milestone, according to the National Weather Service.

The earliest Phoenix hit the century mark was March 26, 1988.

Meteorologist Dan Leins said reaching 100 degrees earlier than normal isn't necessarily indicative of what temperatures will be come summer time.

"It's not out of the norm to be this warm during this part of the season," Leins said.

On a day when many people are experiencing the outdoors, the weather service recommends wearing loose fitting, light clothing, and drinking plenty of water with frequent breaks.

This evening temperatures will cool down to between 64 and 74 degrees, Leins said.

Sunday, the temperature will be about 103 degrees, possibly a little warmer, he said, and then dip into the 90s on Monday.

Temperatures will remain in the 90s until Wednesday. On Thursday, the weather service is forecasting temperatures in the 80s with a 20 percent chance of showers.

The heat that enveloped the Valley on Sunday shattered a 63-year-old record, meteorologists said.

The National Weather Service said a high pressure system that's parked over the Southwest drove the temperature in Phoenix to 105 degrees by about 1:40 p.m.

The hottest temperature previously recorded on April 22 was 99 degrees in 1949, said Weather Service meteorologist Dan Leins.

Leins said temperatures should start dropping today, but not by much.

"It's probably going to be right around 100," he said. "The record's 102, so it will be near record."

Meteorologists expect Tuesday's high to be a littler lower at about 95 degrees. Wednesday should bring a high of about 96.

There's a 50 percent chance of showers that evening, followed Thursday by possible showers and thunderstorms.

Mesa Councilman Dennis Kavanaugh will host a Coffee with the Councilmember May 11 to discuss mayor city projects that include the Chicago Cubs spring training complex that will be under construction this summer. Kavanaugh will answer questions from residents from District 3 in southwest Mesa. His guest speaker will be city engineer Beth Huning, who will discuss city projects, including the Cubs stadium and the planned Dobson Police Station. She will have renderings of the projects for review.

April 23 - No rock concert dreams this Monday

I think it only got to 100°F yesterday. When I woke up it was a bit chilly, but not cold enough for me to complain.

It was very windy last night and I had a few good blasts of wind hit me. But it wasn't a cold wind that made me want to die.

I was only wearing a t-shirt and two sweat shirts to keep warm and they did the job.

On Wed and Thur some storms are supposed to come to Phoenix and the temperature is supposed to drop 20 to 30 degrees. That will suck. There is something like an 80 percent probability of rain on Thursday.

Last but not least it is a lot less stressful living on the streets then in the place I used to live.

The guy that lived at me routinely said he hated everybody on the planet. Those were his words, not mine.

It sure is nice living by myself where I don't have to worry about some guy getting angry at me for trivial reasons.

When I was there I used to lock my door every night when I went to sleep. Here I don't even have a door to lock and I still feel a lot safer at night. I am not under any stress.

The only think I really miss is being able to take a show every day!!!!

If the guys wife happens to read this I certainly am not complaining about you. Every day I was there you treated me like a decent human being and I don't have one single thing to complain about you.

It rained - 6 drops

When I got up I got hit by at least one drop of rain. I might have been hit by a few drops when I was sleeping but I didn't feel any of them.

After I walked a couple of miles I got hit by another 6 to 10 drops of rain.

The cold wave didn't surface either.

It was a little bit colder then yesterday, but I sweated to death in all the cloths I wore to keep warm.

The good news is we ain't going to have any cold weather till October.

Phoenix area could see windy conditions, light rain

The Arizona Republic-12 News Breaking News Team

The Phoenix area is expected to see windy conditions and isolated showers into Thursday afternoon as a storm system make its way through the area clearing out the skies for the duration of the week, according to the National Weather Service.

The skies are expected to clear by mid-afternoon but the Valley will remain windy into the night. Gusts from the storm could reach up to 26 mph on Thursday.

Only a trace amount of rain will come from the showers, according to the Weather Service.

Most of the rainfall will be limited to parts of Northern Arizona.

Gusts in Flagstaff are expected to reach 38 mph and temperatures are expected to reach 57 on Thursday and then warm up into the mid 60s for the weekend and into the start of the work week.

Several parts of the Phoenix area have already seen some scattered showers overnight as a result of the storm system.

Temperatures will reach the low 80s on Thursday. Friday will be sunny and temperatures will remain in the 80s.

The weekend and start of the work week are expected to be sunny with temperatures hovering in the low 90s, according to the Weather Service.

First he claimed that the Constitution is a "living document" which I disagree with.

When people say the Constitution is a "living document" they usually mean that it doesn't mean what it says, which I think is 100 percent BS.

And of course the next thing they usually do is attempt to change the meaning of the Constitution to mean what they want it to mean.

Gun grabbers are some of the people that claim the Constitution is a "living document". And of course they always want to say the 2nd Amendment doesn't give the people the right to keep and bear arms.

Second when it comes to the First Amendment separating church and state I think it is absolute. Period. No mixing of government and religion.

Barry Lynn seemed to think it was OK to mix government and religion in some cases. Such as in the current case where the Obama gang wants to force the Catholic Church to provide birth control for it's employees.

I am an atheist and think religion is nothing but a bunch of bunk! Superstition and fairy tales. Nothing more.

Now part of the Catholic mythology is that birth control is wrong. I don't believe that, but if the Catholics want to believe that it's find with me.

And if you ask me it is a gross violation of the First Amendment when the government forces the Catholic Church to provide birth control to it's employees.

However Barry Lynn seems to want it both ways. He seems to think it is OK for the government to force the Catholic Church to provide birth control because it supports his socialist views.

Third and last he seemed to twist the words of Ron Paul around in an effort to demonize Ron Paul.

Barry Lynn seemed to say that Ron Paul wanted to force his Christian values on us, and that Ron Paul didn't understand the Constitution.

I have been following Ron Paul for years and I disagree with that 100 percent.

While Ron Paul may be a Christian not once have I ever seen Ron Paul want to use the government to force his Christian values and beliefs on the rest of us.

And when it comes to understanding the Constitution, the real Constitution, the founders wrote, not the living breathing Constitution that exists in Barry Lynn's imagination I think Ron Paul understands and follows the Constitution better then anybody else in the U.S. Government.

I was going to make a comment that the battle of keeping Church and State separate is something that will have to go on forever. Even if we win whatever current battle we are fighting to keep the religious nut jobs from using the government to force us to obey their silly views, they will always come back with some other thing they want the government to force on us.

He said the wife or President Roosevelt made a comment similar to mine in that we will have to fight the religious nut jobs forever to keep them from taking over the government.
