A government employees steals almost $3 million from
the state of Arizona and only gets 3 and a half years???
That sounds like a slap on the wrist compared to the
prison term somebody would get for the victimless
crime of selling marijuana or looking at dirty pictures.

James Eugene Burnes was sentenced to prison Wednesday for embezzling nearly $2.8 million in charitable funds intended to provide emergency assistance to Arizona National Guard members and their families. Maricopa County Superior Court Judge Susan Brnovich sentenced Burnes to 31/2 years in prison and seven years of probation. Burnes, 66, was resource manager for the Arizona Department of Emergency and Military Affairs. Between 2003 and 2011, when he was found out, he diverted money from the emergency fund and from a fund to help high-school dropouts. The money was used to support a gambling habit and to pay his income taxes. |
